Information
This semester, I have interned
for a handful of organizations. Of these internships, the most successful was
my internship at the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Newport News.
There, I was a Youth Development Intern under Martha Dodson. It was challenging
to find time to complete my internship tasks. Similarly, I was often difficult
to remain an enthusiastic leader over the span of many hours with young people.
Still, I achieved many accomplishments. In these accomplishments include
successful community service, talent shows, youth meetings, Easter egg hunts, and
holiday celebrations for the youth of FUMC. In order to complete my internship,
I utilized my computer and camera. This technology enabled my successes.
Overall, I had a profitable experience as an intern for FUMC. I love my mentor
and enjoyed my tasks. If I were to give advice to a future internship student,
I would advise him to find an internship that is convenient for him. Regardless
of how fun an internship may seem, if it cannot fit into your schedule it is
not possible. Now, I intend to go to college and work with youth to help pay
for tuition. I love to tutor and babysit- anything with kids is interesting.
When I grow up, I hope to work in public relations. More specifically, I aspire
to work for a nonprofit organization. This way, I can help people while doing
what I love.

Pictured is my mentor Martha (Mrs. Clause) to the right, her
husband Jerry (Santa Clause) to the left, and myself in the center (an Elf).
Here, we are dressed to give clothes and toys to immigrant children at our FUMC
holiday celebration.
Pictured is this year’s Easter party. This is open to the
public and brings in many families to our church. I help to plan, set up, host,
and clean up this event.
Pictured is my fellow intern
and I. We are hosting a talent show for the kids of the church. We are the
MC’s.Together, we planned, hosted, and publicized this event.
Pictured
is the Youth Group after many hours of yard work. We raked the massive yard of
an elderly woman. This required a lot of hours and a lot of encouragement on my
part.

I am so glad to have had this experience and am thankful to
all those who have enabled it.
